Politically Challenged

Last week the legislature in a state that is dear to me passed a set of laws that would make me an outlaw if Governor Brown signs them into law. Why the state of California would allow laws that are so restrictive and cause law abiding citizens to jump through hoops to exercise their rights is beyond me. Yes folks, I am about to get political.

I know that talking politics among friends is a bad idea but this hits to close to home for me and I feel that it is my duty to speak out on a subject that should be on every citizen's minds regardless of political party. Yes I am talking about gun control and the second amendment. Yes I know that many believe that the 2nd amendment is not important in this day and age. That we are to "civilized" to need firearms for our personal defense, that our governmental agencies will take care of it... Well that depends on how you look at it I suppose.

Those who wrote and signed the bill of rights had seen what a country can do to it's people when the government no longer fear the people. What happens when it's people fall into line like sheep to the slaughter. The tyranny and oppression that can come from a government that has absolute power. They designed the bill of rights to keep us free of that type of tyranny and over the years we have allowed it to become skewed and molested under the context of more liberty or social safety. They say that history repeats itself so I want to ask you this. What happens when one of these three things happen?
1; The USA is invaded. Lets face it we have not had a major battle on US soil in a very very long time and if we were set upon by a country of ability and stealth, would our government really be able to protect us?
2; Our country falls into it's own civil war. Every day the American people grow further apart instead of siding by each other in support of what our country was founded on. We as a nation are not above standing up for ourselves and as the saying goes, history has a way of repeating itself.
3; The government decides what is in our best interest without our input. Oh wait that's already happening... Think about this every day we are told what we can and can not do based on people who are paid to make up laws that have nearly zero life experience in the areas they are making laws about.

Notice above I said "when", Not if. In every country that has given up their right to defend themselves against it's government, that government has taken strict control over what those people are allowed to do. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny, when the government fears the people, there is Liberty.~ Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was wise beyond his time and knew that one day we would have to stand up for our rights, our freedoms, and our lives. He knew that no matter how tame a civilization became, it would one day need to stand tall and proud or fall to our knees in defeat.

An unarmed Citizen is far easier to rob, murder, rape than an armed one. This is evident even in countries who have strict gun laws such as the U.K. where even in 2009, the U.K. had a higher percentage of violent crime than the U.S. per 100,000. States with the strictest of gun laws also have the most violent crime in the U.S.. Chicago for example in 2010 had a violent crime rate over  400x the national average and New York just under 200x. where as states with citizens who utilize their 2nd amendment rights such as Idaho and Montana. Even states with larger populations such as Arizona and Texas have a significantly lower rates than those who put extreme limits or bans on firearms.

In the end it is up to us as American citizens to stand up for what we believe in and where we want our country to go from here. Yes we all want a peaceful life but as has been proven time and time again. Peace is not constant, nor should it be. Peace through freedom is the only true peace and we have proven in history that freedom is never free. Regardless of where you stand politically, our rights as Americans should be our number one priority. Franky I feel that both "parties" have led us in a direction that is neither free, nor just. Each has bent to the financial benefit of their own pocket books, which is never good for the people. Both nearly tyrannical in their agendas.

As is apparent by this lengthy blog I am for the second amendment, I am against tyranny of all kinds, be it laws that would govern one set of peoples over another, or laws that would prohibit the freedoms of those who deserve freedom. Our federal government has no place in our bedrooms, our checkbooks, or our religious beliefs. If one group of people are deserving of specific benefits, so are the other. Corporations are not people. The people work for the corporations. And since when is irresponsibility rewarded and allowed an escape from reality? These things are an injustice to the people, young and old, who call this great nation home. Those who believe as our decedents believed, that hard work is a reward in and of itself and that it will be rewarded through perseverance.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog. I know and understand that it is a touchy subject for many, but it is also important to understand that where we have come from is just as important as where we go.
If you live in California, I would urge you to write your Governor before it is to late. Despite their personal agendas, they are there to work for you.
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
