Editing programs and my week

From the Audrina Fox photoshoot
I was talking to a fellow photographer the other day and he mentioned that he would like to learn Adobe Photoshop better. Like many, he used other software more specific to photography like Lightroom or Aperture. Many photographers see Photoshop as a tool for heavy handed edits or creating digital art among other uses not directed to photography. Many simply misunderstand the uses of Photoshop and how it can directly tie into what we do as photographers, and I am not talking about little adjustments to color, saturation, etc. Most of that can be done in Lightroom simple enough.

Photoshop comes in to those who want even greater control over their work, not that Lightroom is not a very competent program but just the ability to do layers can be a huge asset and adding a mask to the layer is even better. There are simply some retouching techniques that are impossible in Lightroom.  Also, many of the plug-in's that we use such as Nik Software's Color Efex 4 have the option to use a brush to fine tune your images after you find the effects you want to use, but that ability is only in Photoshop and does not translate to Lightroom. This is not a tutorial by any means but if someone has a question of the software listed I am more than happy to help out.

Sierra on her first day of school
So whats up in our world? Well, Desiree has been helping me with a couple of photo shoots and I am loving that she is finally on board a bit to help me out. I have been doing more and more portraits so an assistant is a must. As many of you know, location shoots are not a one person gig and when your talking about adding light, things can get complicated really fast. Not to mention, she sometimes comes up with some great ideas herself.

Sierra started school this week!!! It was funny going to pick her up today and her not being ready to leave. I can only hope that she maintains that attitude about school and learning. I know Desiree and I will continue to encourage her and help her grow academically. I know we all have high hopes for our children but I will do what I can to see that my child has a well rounded education both in the class and outside of it.

So whats up this week? I have a shoot idea I am trying to get setup as well as getting some reviews finished up for Living Overland. Speaking of Living Overland, it looks like the team is expanding which is super awesome. I have high hopes for Living Overland. It falls in directly with my desire to inspire people to get outside and experience what was there before the concrete jungles.
