Mothers Day, Our Way

This week has been focused primarily on Mothers Day for me. Taking Sierra to pick out Desiree's gifts and what not was interesting. A few weeks ago, Desiree mentioned that she wanted to do photos of her and Sierra before mothers day and of course, me being me, I put it to the back of my mind and continued on. Well, Friday comes along and Desiree mentions that we need to get the pictures done Saturday...

Now I am pretty adamant about keeping track of the weather, specially when it comes to photo shoots. As expected, there was a 50% chance of afternoon showers and thunder storms and as Desiree began to get ready it hit. I just kind of laughed and figured there was another day, but Desiree had other ideas. One look in the mirror and her "perfect" hair day was not going to be ruined by the freaking rain, so the Idea was to find gaps in the storms to shoot.

Now I usually like to shoot in Wickham park or at the beach but the park recently had controlled fires to burn out some of the less desirable vegetation and honestly, to me it looks like crap. A quick search on my phone led us to the Botanical Gardens at FSU. Never been so why not, right? So glad that we found this place but I could have done with out some of the weather. Also found out that the cheap Op-Tech rain covers do not like the battery grip on my D7000. Anyways the Shoot went well and the resulting images turned out very nice in my opinion.

Mothers day was of course fun, we tried to make it a special day for Desiree as this year was the first that Sierra actually got into it. We spent it with Desiree's family in Merrit Island. Not a real help to my diet but the smoked ribs and all the fixings that went along with it was awesome. I really like to cook (on my terms), but my brother in law Josh comes up with some pretty dang awesome grub. Salads and beans filled the rest of the plate and of course my mother in law had to make her awesome cheese cake, um did I mention that mothers day killed my diet? So it is back to the grind stone today. Actually looking forward to my walk tonight.

Oh here is something cool! I was asked to drive down to the Keys to pick up an old record player early next week. Basically a 2 day trip for free where I can photograph some places I have never seen. Kind of excited about that one. Sorry no tips and tricks this week, but keep up with us as we head on down to the southern tip of the U.S. for a little look.
