Writing

As some of you know I have been doing a little writing for Living Overland. Now I am not the strongest writer when it comes to grammar or spelling and yes, I do have someone who edits my personal blogs(Thanks Lish). Often times in the middle of a sentence I will be writing further into the paragraph or into another section of the article, when an idea pops into my head that needs to be covered before I forget and when I go back to where I left off I miss something. Sadly, I do sometimes forget to add a comma or replace a word. Luckily she usually catches it for me. I enjoy expressing myself and writing about topics I am passionate about. All of you know I love photography, the outdoors, and of course my family so being able to express myself on this blog as well as test new equipment and review them for Living Overland has been great. It is also been helping me to become a better writer as I would eventually like to write a book on photography.

Not another "how to" about exposure, composition, etc. Those types of books are a dime a dozen although do not tell that to the person who wrote it. Lets be honest though, if it is about exposure, Scott Kelby has covered it in at least 3 books. To be fair though, there are very few I would rather learn the basics from than Kelby and some of his advanced information is priceless. I could name a dozen photographers who have written amazing books to learn the basics from and if you have been on Youtube, you know that there are a ton of people who like to go over the basics. Yeah there are a few unique personalities that shine. Snapchick, Granger, and some dude with a wild fro are just a few of the people that come to mind. Each person markets themselves in a slightly different way but generally they are covering basics, "reviewing" equipment, or giving you a little tip that might have worked for them. That tip might not add up to anything big at the moment but if you add them to other tips and the basics, You have a viable product.

So what should I write about? Well I have a few ideas in mind but I have some other projects I want to get cleared from my head before I continue, yes I wrote my first chapter that will never see the light of day because it was titled "Exposure". Really, that was what I wrote about, but that is not the direction I want to go with it so... I would like to combine my love for photography and the outdoors. Maybe find a specific project and write about that as I go. We will see.

Some of you may have noticed my sudden push in portrait photography and video/slideshows lately. Yeah, time to start working with people a bit more and expand on some things in media that I have been lacking. Yes, nature is my passion but in this day and age, as a photographer, you have to go out of your way to be more and to stand out beyond the average Craigslist photographer. Some of my favorite photographers are now media producers who stepped up their knowledge and ability and now they are really doing well.

As I sit here in this very quiet house thinking that I really need a haircut. Desiree and Sierra are on their way to the movies to see Planes and have a girls day. I had planned an early wake up and out the door but when I woke up I forgot to lift my head off the pillow. Oh well, there is always tomorrow and I am so looking forward to cooler weather to make it's way to Florida. It will make for much more pleasant exploring conditions.
